Patrick Moore Memorial Fund
The goal of the Patrick Moore Memorial Fund is to provide ongoing support for capital projects within the athletics department, beginning with the Patrick Moore Memorial Press Box.
With a growing student-athlete population, over 400 in the fall of 2017, Crusaders athletics is looking for support in helping shape the future of the department at Madonna University. Since 2015, the department has expanded by eight teams to 19; all of which compete in the 11-team Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Madonna University currently sponsors the sports of baseball, men's and women's basketball, men’s and women’s bowling, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, softball and volleyball. Crusaders teams have been members of the NAIA since 1987, when volleyball became the University’s first varsity sport, and members of the WHAC since 1997. Since joining the WHAC, Madonna University teams have won over 50 conference titles and made more than 30 appearances at their respective NAIA National Championships.
In addition to team successes, the Crusaders have seen numerous individuals honored at both the conference and national levels for their success on the field and in the classroom. Your support not only provides first-class facilities for our student-athletes, but also aids in their personal development in the classroom.
The first use of the funds raised will be for the Patrick Moore Memorial Press Box at the Madonna Athletic Complex soccer/lacrosse field at the corner of Newburgh and 5 Mile Roads. To honor Moore and his legacy, the Press Box will be everything he would have wanted, so that current and future sports information directors can efficiently do their job. In addition to private donations, the building will be funded with proceeds from a golf outing being planned for Summer 2018.
Moore was a treasured member of the Madonna family. His dedication and love for Crusaders Athletics were unmatched. While earning his degree in journalism and public relations, Moore spent three years working in the sports information office at Madonna. He graduated in 2003, and returned to his alma mater four years later to direct communications for the Crusaders teams. He managed game-day operations, found scorekeepers and printed programs. He interviewed coaches and players, kept detailed statistics and biographies. He tirelessly updated the Crusaders' website and had his finger on the pulse of every sports team, both Madonna's and the opposition’s.
Moore also played a key role in athletic communications for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference along with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He blossomed into one of the best sports information professionals in the country and he had the awards to prove it. He was a three-time WHAC SID of the Year. His publications were rated in the top 10 in the U.S. no fewer than 26 times. His volleyball press guides ranked tops in the U.S. on four occasions.
The Golf outing will be a scramble format and registration will be available early in 2018. Foursomes, event and hole sponsorships also will be available. While the 2018 outing will support the Patrick Moore Memorial Press Box, future outings will raise funds to support the needs of Crusaders Athletics.
